USS Worcester - History and Technical Reference
My interest in the USS Worcester stems from my father's time in the Navy. He served aboard The USS Worcester from March of 1948 (precommissioning crew) until October of 1951 when his enlistment in the Navy was completed. I was fortunate to be able to attend several USS Worcester Association reunions with my dad and got to meet some of his shipmates. Then in 2004 I bought a book about the USS Massachusetts (USS Massachusetts Technical Reference by Randall S. Shoker) that contained the ship's history and a lot of technical information. While reading that book, I wondered if I could use a format similar to what Mr. Shoker had used and put together a book about the USS Worcester. I had many photographs of the ship that my dad's shipmates had shared with me to use in the USS Worcester Association's website and had been collecting historical and technical information about the ship. So I set out pulling things together and adding photographs. I had purchased several rolls of microfilm from the US National Archives containing the builders plans for the ship. I found a way to scan the microfilm and used that for additional illustrations in the book. I completed the book in 2006 and copies that were sold through the Association's Ship's Store. I found a way to make the book available as a web page, unfortunately until i find a better way, it's a very large (40MB) page. Click on the title below to view it.
